SEATTLE BIKESTATION PROJECT TEAM

WESTSTART
Working to develop clean transportation technologies and systems throughout the Western United States, WestStart is an advanced transportation consortium that has worked with public and private partners worldwide for the past ten years. WestStart provides technology development and demonstration, market analysis, and fleet implementation services in the areas of electric, natural gas and hybrid vehicles, mobility services and fuel-cell technologies.

KING COUNTY METRO
A longtime leader in actively promoting and fostering the link between bicycling and public transportation, King County Metro was the first in the nation to implement the current bus bike rack system that is now used by other transportation companies throughout the country. Currently, all of the coaches in King County Metro's system and vanpools (upon request) are fitted with a two-rack unit and the agency provides a network of bicycle lockers at its park-and-ride lots, as well as at several transit centers and flyer stops.

BIKESTATION
A non-profit organization, Bikestation's facilities provide secure bicycle parking and related transportation amenities to encourage clean trips and reduce vehicle miles traveled. The word Bikestation is trademarked to ensure that each facility maintains a level of standards that aligns with the organization's mission. The Seattle facility is the first automated clean mobility center concept in the U.S. Other Bikestation transportation centers are located in Long Beach, Palo Alto, and Berkeley, CA.

FLEXCAR
The nation's largest car-sharing company, Flexcar operates car-sharing programs for more than 9,500 customers in Seattle, Portland, OR, California and the Washington, DC metro area. Flexcar members have convenient access to a fleet of new and fuel-efficient cars strategically located across metropolitan regions. With flexible pricing plans, members can reserve and drive any of the vehicles whenever and wherever they need to, without filling out paperwork, paying for insurance, gas or repairs.

CITY OF SEATTLE
Seattle residents have a vision for the future of the city: vibrant neighborhoods, a healthy environment and a strong, secure economy. The City has made significant commitments to bicycling and transit so it's not surprising that 36% of Seattle's 520,000 residents engage in recreational bicycling and more than 6,000 people commute daily. Transit provisions aim for convenient, frequent, reliable, competitive transit service, and an aggressive goal of doubling ridership in the city by 2010. The goal is to ensure that Seattle remains a leader in livability.

SOUND TRANSIT
Bicycling remains a viable part of the Puget Sound's regional transportation network with a policy of access for bicyclists on Sound Transit vehicles and at its stations. This commitment provides for racks and lockers for use on the new ST Express regional buses, Sounder commuter rail and Link light rail trains; and at Sounder train stations, Link light rail stations and Regional Express transit centers.
